Ledro Museum Network – ReLED

The Third Italian War of Independence and the First World War left a lasting mark on the Ledro Valley and its landscape. At the small museum in Bezzecca and on Colle S. Stefano, you can discover the events that shaped both the valley and the history of Italy.

Surrounded by reed beds, water lilies and water, Lake Ampola protects one of the richest and most delicate natural habitats in the Ledro Valley. Follow the boardwalk through the vegetation to the Visitor Centre and take a closer look at the plants, animals and traces of life that make this wetland so special.

With its forests, meadows and high-altitude pastures, Tremalzo is a mountain area in the Ledro Alps. The “Mons. Ferrari” Visitor Centre introduces the plants and wildlife of Tremalzo throughout the four seasons, with a closer look at traditional alpine farming and forest management. At Bocca di Casèt, 1,608 metres above sea level, you can discover how we study bird migration through monitoring and bird ringing.

For generations, water and fire powered work in the Ledro Valley. The trail takes you past mills, lime kilns and forges before reaching the forge of the Ciuaroi, the traditional nail-makers of Prè. Here you can discover how hobnails for shoes were made and learn more about a craft that played an important role in the history of the Ledro Valley.

In the pine forest of Pur, art and nature change together. Along the trail, you will find site-specific artworks, many created with natural materials and designed to interact with the forest, the stream and the passing of time. It is an open-air route where you can see how the landscape itself becomes part of the artwork.

What was a pharmacist’s work like before modern machinery? At the Foletto Pharmacy Museum, you can see stills, mortars, tools, machines and a historic herbarium documenting almost two centuries of the Foletto family’s work. The museum brings together pharmacy, botany and traditional preparations to show how the profession has changed over time.
