Surrounded by forests, meadows and high-altitude pastures, Tremalzo is a mountain area in the Ledro Alps. Its rich variety of plants, animals and natural habitats makes it a remarkable place. This biodiversity is also one of the reasons why Tremalzo is part of the UNESCO Alpi Ledrensi e Judicaria Biosphere Reserve, which promotes biodiversity and the relationship between people and the landscape.

“Mons. Ferrari” Visitor Centre for Flora and Fauna

How does Tremalzo change with the seasons? At the Visitor Centre, you can discover the plants and animals that live in these environments throughout the year, from spring to winter.

There is also a section dedicated to life in the alpine pastures and forest management, helping you understand how human activities have shaped the landscape you see today.

The Visitor Centre is located along the road to Tremalzo, in the former Malga Tiarno di Sotto. You can reach it by car from Passo Ampola, following the SP127 towards Tremalzo. Parking is available near the building.

Bocca di Casèt Bird Ringing Station

At an altitude of 1,608 metres, Bocca di Casèt is a mountain pass migratory birds cross every year on their journey south.

From August to October, the MUSE bird ringing station operates here. Researchers temporarily catch, study, and ring birds to collect information about their migration routes and movements. It is a chance to experience scientific fieldwork up close.

To reach Bocca di Casèt, start on foot from the Visitor Centre area and follow SAT trail 416 to the pass. The easy round trip is about 4.6 km long, with 288 metres of elevation gain, and takes around 2 hours.

Alternatively, you can leave your car in the parking area at Rifugio Garibaldi and continue on foot along an easy forest road. Bocca di Casèt is about a 40-minute walk from there.
