8 Collections, 20.000 specimens, Collection period: since circa 1770

The geological collections of the Science Museum comprise about 20,000 specimens (44,000 individual items) consisting of minerals (7,000), rocks (3,000), and fossils (10,000). The oldest core of the collections dates back to the late eighteenth century, while most of the acquisitions occurred during the first sixty years of the twentieth century. In addition to these, there are also exhibits resulting from recent acquisitions due to specific research campaigns, donations from collectors and purchases for the creation of the Museum’s exhibition apparatus.
