The Jellyfish

Art installation

1280x800

A majestic jellyfish is a metaphor of the ongoing environmental changes.

Created by contemporary artists Matteo Boato and Sara Metaldi, the 2×4 metre installation is made of stainless steel, plexiglass and recycled plastic, and features lighting elements. Suspended in the museum lobby, it marks the start of a new tour.

But why a jellyfish? What is its connection with the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation? Some species of jellyfish are highly adaptable and flourish in increasingly warm and acidic seas. Global warming and the consequent melting of glaciers lead to rising sea levels and changes in ocean ecosystems, creating favourable conditions for the proliferation of these organisms. The jellyfish thus becomes a subtle and unexpected sign of the climate crisis, representing the delicate balance of marine ecosystems and hinting at the fragility of our future on a changing planet.
